That’s the question many of us are asking ourselves right now. According to the New York Post, Barack Obama has appeared on television three times as much as George W. Bush and Bill Clinton COMBINED.
One former speech writer was quoted in the article as saying that the President has turned the job into an “infomercial” and that bothers me.
I don’t know what you think about this, but as the President of the United States of America, SHOULDN’T HE HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO? I feel like the President should be reading reports about Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, the economy, the news articles about his beloved ACORN, or any one of the hundreds of documents we civilians don’t even know about yet. Yet Barack Obama seems to be in constant campaign mode. He seems, in my eyes at least, to be more interested in being loved than in being correct.
This is most evidenced by his decision to not decide what to do in Afghanistan.
If you read the article on Fox News about Mr. Gibbs’ response it seems to me like a ducked question. But isnt this the same Barack Obama who promised to win the war in Afghanistan because “the central front in the war on terror is not Iraq… and thats why the second goal of my new strategy will be taking the fight to Al’ Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
The fact is that President Obama has waffled on this just like his friends in Congress have waffled on healthcare.
But ladies and gentlemen, dont fret, we are a mere 405 days from the day the Republicans win control of Congress and 1140 days away from the day that Obama fails to be re-elected.
Hold out hope, fight the good fight, and make sure Republicans get elected to municipal, county, state, federal offices and watch closely for a new leader to emerge as has happened before when we have been in crisis mode like this (Reagan cerca 1975). There are so many young, smart and charismatic members of this party that it is certain that in the near future the Republican party will rise up from the defeat. The party is on the rise with strong candidates already running ahead in NJ and VA against powerful Democratic machines. These elections may not be a referrendum on Obama, as some pundits have said, but there is still something to be said about some of the ideals that are being championed in these campaigns.
Moral of the story, let him be a rockstar, because in 1140 days he will be a memory. He will be one of those presidents that we remember not because of what they did well, but because of what they did POORLY (ex. Carter).
